Welcome to Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Fish and Fish Habitat Protection Program’s Engagement Platform; thank you for taking the time to learn more about this resource.
Purpose
The purpose of this platform is to provide a consistent, effective, and ongoing place to learn and collaborate on measures to protect fish and fish habitat. Our platform is a key aspect towards supporting our Engagement Framework. You can learn more about the Framework here. There is information on all Products available to all Canadians through the public side of the platform. The public may also provide comments on any Product or aspect of the site at any time through our feedback tool.
This platform also houses specific activities that are designed for registered users who are targeted Indigenous, partner and stakeholder organizations that work with DFO on a regular basis and may be directly affected by the proposed products. These activities are technical in nature and can only be undertaken by those who have been registered by DFO. If you are not registered, and you work with FFHPP on a regular basis
About the site
There are three key elements to the Engagement Platform that make up the structure of the home page. The Navigation Bar on the left hand side, the Engagement Feed in the middle, and Latest Updates on the right hand side.
Navigation Bar
The left hand Navigation bar remains present wherever you go on the platform. It lets you easily navigate between products, activities, and alternate resources.
Clicking on a Product name will produce a list that shows the resources and activities available for each particular Product. Resources will take you to any documentation available for that Product including completed info-sessions and discussion papers.
Ideas, if active, will take you to an online brainstorming exercise where you can share your ideas, suggest improvements to the ideas of others, and rate ideas; this is all geared towards advancing thought on key aspects of a Product.This exercise is available for registered users.
Insights Gathering, if available, provides the community with the opportunity to provide their views via text or video on topics associated with a particular Product. Participants are encouraged to read and view the submissions of others, comment if they like, and make their own text or video submissions. This exercise is available for registered users.
There will be a number of Surveys available at different times on the Engagement Platform. They will be of various lengths depending up on the Product and most will be designed for registered users to complete.
Engagement Feed
The Engagement Feed is designed to provide a regular stream of content. Articles, activities, meeting notices, statistics, and, as collaborative activities begin in January, contributions from participants. It is updated regularly with interesting items and is a great and easy way to learn and engage on items that catch your interest.
Select and de-select Products that are of interest to you in order to filter your ‘Feed’. By ‘checking’ a particular product you are choosing to view all applicable activity as it pertains to that Product. Keep all Products selected for a stream of broad platform activity, or select only one to hone in on a particular subject-area.
By taking a few minutes to scroll through the Engagement Feed, it is likely that users will stumble across an event, an article, or activity that is of interest to them. The ‘Feed’ is always changing, so check back as often as you like to see updates, and the participation of others.
Latest Updates
The Latest Updates section makes viewers aware of significant upcoming events and changes that have recently been made on the platform. The Latest Updates section is a perfect section to check up on to ensure you are up-to-date on activities, resources, and info as shared by FFHPP.
This section will not change that often but is a good, quick reference point to find milestone events and activities that are taking place.
